Sailing Background

I started sailing on a friends boat in 1993. In 1995 I bought a Mistral sailboard and had some fun with that (Planing on a long board is great fun). In 1997, we joined New Castle Sailing Club in New Castle Delaware and I began sailing and racing Thistles. Deb and I purchase Namaste from Lamar Neville during August 2001. So far she's been great. We hope to cruise for at least one entire week this summer and spend most weekends improving our skills.

Repairs and Upgrades

Replaced cutlass bearing
Replaced stuffing box with dripless PYI dripless shaft seal.
Replaced fuel fill and vent hoses with approved type.
Replaced original bronze shaft with stainless steel shaft.
Removed water heater to improve engine access. I would like to install a one gallon water heater / heat exchanger.
Painted original steel fuel tank.
Glassed inside of battery box.
Repaired crack in rudder.
Made an eye splice for a new mizzen sheet.
Painted bottom.
Replaced rod bobstay (which I found cracks in) with 5/16" wire with swaged fittings. I would like to improve the tang next winter and beef it up to 1/2" 316 stainless (available through McMaster-Carr) and go to 3/8" wire with sta-lok fittings. The rigging shop said 3/8" wire would not increase the strength given the 1/4" stainless tangs extending that far from the hull. I will also need to improve the bowsprit attachment point.
Supplemented Ground tackle with Fortress FX-16, 6' chain and 200' 1/2" 3 strand nylon rode.
Purchased Garmin 48 GPS
Purchased Seaworthy 9.2 inflatable and Nissan 5 hp 2-stroke.
